Trek in Myanmar

Trekking in the mountains of Myanmar {Burma} is a spellbinding experience for passionate trekkers. Trekking through villages provides you wonderful opportunities to meet the different tribes of Myanmar. There are about 135 ethnic tribes in Myanmar; diverse and colourful in their costumes, languages, lifestyle and religions.

Natma Taung at Mt. Victoria in the Chin State is a marvellous trek. Putao trek in fast north and western Myanmar, trekking around the Inle lake, Pindaya or Kalaw in and around Kyaing Tong{Keng Tung} are popular trek routes in Myanmar.

The above mentioned places take you inside many national parks in Myanmar. There are 15 ecotourism sites opened by the Myanmar Forest Department where international visitors are welcomed.   Alaung Daw Kathapa National Park is one. It offers visitors an enriching experience to go long range trekking inside the forest. The Pho Kyar Elephant Camp and the Myaing Hay Wun Elephant Camps are also excellent and well recommended to enjoy the bountiful nature of Myanmar.

METT # 05 Trek to Inle – 7 days / 6 nights

This is a more cultural experience as you encounter various villages all the way to Inle Lake.

Day 01: Arrival and half day sightseeing. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 02: Sightseeing of Yangon.

Day 03: Heho-Kalaw-Tar Yaw

AM Fly to Heho to commence the following trek

Meet on arrival at Heho airport and drive to start trek. Commence the trek in the hilly
area of Kalaw which takes you through beautiful tea plantations, cheroot leaf, ..etc.

Reach Ywar Thit village after three hours where you can interact with the Danu ethnic group, typical of the area. After that proceed to Tar Yaw village which gives you the opportunity to meet the Palaung ethnic group. After 15 minutes, arrive at Tar Yaw village. Some houses here showcase fine handmade weaving work. Proceed to view point for lunch. View point offers breathtaking scenery and a panoramic view of the area, there is also a small shop that belongs to Nepalese people. Rest after lunch, overnight at Tar yaw village.

Day 04 Tar Yaw-Nang Te Thee Lethi

After breakfast, departure at 8:00 am from Tar Yaw village to Hin Khar gone village
and then Myin Saine Gone village which is a 2 hour walk. Enroute, cross the cheroot leaf garden and some garlic fields. The village is strategically located near the railway station where from local people travel to Thazi (Junction of Mandalay, Yangon railway line). Have a rest here and proceed to Sar Bin village. Lunch at Sar Bine village. After
lunch, walk to Nang te Thee Le thi village. The day trek takes you to the villages of the Pao And Danu ethnic group. Overnight at the village

Day 05MNang Te Thee Lethi-Inle

After breakfast, departure at 7:30 am from Nang The Le Thee to Kong Hla village of the
Pao ethnic group, a 3 hour walk. On the way you can see the picture risqué landscapes of paddy plantation and garlic fields. Lunch at Kong Hla village. After lunch, a visit to the village which beholds wonderful photographic opportunities. Proceed to Hti Thein village and onto Inle Lake for the night.

Day 06: Drive to Heho and fly to Yangon.

Day 07: Free till final departure to airport.

  • Heho Airport to Trek Starting point by Car = 28 miles (1:15Hour )
  • Nyaung Shwe to Heho Airport (By Car)= 45 Minutes

METT # 06 Putao Trek 16 Days / 15 Nights

Day 01: Arrival and half day sightseeing. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 02: Sightseeing of Yangon.

Day 03: AM fly to Putao and commence the following trek

On your arrival at Putao by flight, pick up by one of our company representatives, head towards the city for lunch. After lunch, a visit to a village nearby and meet up with ther members of the hiking group. In the evening, proceed to upper Shankhaung village – which is approximately an hour for 10 miles –by jeep. Dinner and overnight stay will be at a traditional house in the village.

Day 4. Putao – Shangaung village – Warsandan village

After breakfast start trek in the forested mountain, for about 7 hours, over Mt. Shangaung (4600 ft). Stop for packed lunch on the way. Warsandan Village, a small village on the banks of the Namlan River, is the end point of the day trekking program. Watch the spectacular sunset here. Dinner and overnight stay at the village.

Day 5. Wasandan village – Ziyar village

Start the morning tour program with a 5 hour trek for 9 miles to get to the destination Ziyadum Village, which is situated about 1050 m above sea level. It is an easy trek, a flat, tranquil route that takes you along the forest of Namlang creek. Lunch will be served at Awadum Lizu Village. In the evening, arrive at Ziyardum Village, the last Rawan village in the north-west of Putao, on the bank of Ziyar River amidst ever beautiful green forests. Enjoy the evening, taking photos along the river near by the village. Dinner and night stop at the village.

Day 6. Ziyar – Chaungzone camp – Thitpingyi

The first half of the 5 hours journey takes you through lush ever green bamboo forests in the morning. On the way, stop for lunch at Chaungzone camp, which lies on the bank of Phangran Creek. Arrival at Thitpingyi camp, the destination for the day program in the evening. Dinner will served in the tranquil and serene forest and night stop is in tents.

Day 7. Thitpingyi camp – Khan Thauk Myint camp

Start with trek along the evergreen forest, for about six hours, feeling the rich flora and fauna of pine forests. Rest enroute for lunch at upper Thitpingyi camp. Stop at the target of the day, Khan Thauk Myint camp which is about 2575 m above sea level. Dinner and night stop.

Day 8. Khan Thauk Myint camp – Snowline camp

The march along the mountainous terrain is a sweet challenge with colorful rhododendron flowers; a pleasure to withhold till destination Snowline camp. An invigorating dinner at the base camp, stay for the night.

Day 9. Snowline – Summit – Snowline – Khanthaukmyint camp

Under the warmth of the rising sun, commence hiking to the summit of Mt. Phongun, about 3 hours with snow filled paths and lots of photographic moments! Followed by refreshing tea time at the peak, then leave for the snowline camp. The beauty of nature at the base camp is spellbinding amidst pine forests. And then, enjoy the downward trek to Khanthaukmyint camp. After arrival, a relaxing dinner and night stay.

Day 10. Khanthaukmyint camp – Thitpingyi camp

An easy downward trek in the morning for about 5 hours, taking in the fresh, crisp air of the pine forests. Night stop at Thitpingyi camp.

Day 11. Thitpingyi camp – Ziyar village

Despite three hours of duration, it is the easiest of the whole tour program, an easy down trail to Chaunzone camp. After lunch, another painless walk to Ziyar village through enchanting bamboo forests. Spend leisurely time by the Ziyar River and get a fascinating glimpse on the lifestyle of the Rawan people. Capture the captivating sunset followed by a bonfire with traditional dancing. Dinner and overnight stay at the village, a highlight of the tour.

Day 12. Ziyadum – Kharlan – Wasundum

Derive pleasure from the easy trek as the walk commences toward Kharlan Village, a small and pleasant Rawan village with pretty and pristine landscapes. On the way, cross a traditional rattan suspension bridge. Lunch at Awadun Lizu village and arrive at Wasundum Village in the evening, on time to witness the amazing sunset at Nantu River.

Day 13. Wasundum – Shangaung village

Enjoy the morning trek to the top of Mt. Shangaung, 1600m above sea level, away from the humdrum of city life. We reach Shangaung village, one of the biggest villages in the vicinity of Putao with about 2000 villagers, mainly Rawans and Lizus. Evening sightseeing around the village gives you the chance to interact with the local community and get to know their culture. Dinner and night stop will be at a traditional house in the village.

Day 14. Shankhaung Village – Putao

In the morning, visit the colourful and interesting morning market which gives you a glimpse of the different tribes in northern Myanmar. An awesome opportunity not to be missed, so don’t forget your cameras! After breakfast, a one hour jeep trip to, 12 miles away. The drive ends on the bank of Malikha River, one of the famous small rivers of great Ayeyarwaddy. We cross the river by a small boat and thence start our trek. Sightseeing on the way: Kaungmulone Pagoda, over 2000 years on the eastern bank of the Malikha river, features intriguing images around the stupa. We visit Rawan, Lizu and Shan villages on the way back to Putao. After a leisurely evening, dinner will be served a good restaurant and night stop at Htawanrazi guest house in Putao.

Day 15. Putao – Yangon: Departure

Enjoy the interesting wares of the colourful morning market at the break of dawn. Experience some local cuisine for at a small restaurant in the market before the flight back.

DAY 16: Free till final departure to airport.

Northern Myanmar (4 Nights/5 Days) Trek

Yangon – Putao – Yangon

Day 1: Yangon/Putao by flight. Puato is the northern most of Myanmar. Putao town is surrounded by mountains in Kachin State.  After Check in, visit to the Panhlaing Village, where the Khamti Shan tribes live. Overnight.

Day 2: Drive to Htawadan Village by car after breakfast. Cross the Malikha river by canoe boat to visit to the Kaungmulon Pagoda built in 16 century and is only one ancient Pagoda in this area. After having pack lunch a small trekking to Namkhan village specially to observe the ways of life of Rawung tribes.
Overnight (Home-stay) at Namkhan Village.

Day 3: After breakfast, trek to Machanbaw & to the high bank of Malikha river)
Overnight Machanbaw.

Day 4: After breakfast, drive to Mularshidi Village by car to & meet Lisu tribe. A beautiful suspension bridge of Mularshidi will be visited & driven Putao for overnight.

Day 5: Early morning visit the central market famous for vegetables, then have  breakfast and transfer to Airport for fly back to Yangon by flight.

Short Trek up North (Kachin State)

 Yangon–Myitkyina-Indawgyi-Myitkyina – Yangon (5 Nights/6 Days)
Day 1:  Fly Yangon/Myitkyina the capital of Kachin State. Transfer to hotel.
Afternoon sightseeingt & sun set at Balamindin Bridge.Overnight in Myitkyina.

Day 2: Drive (one & half hour) to  the river confluence of Makha and Malikha Rivers. Trekking to Jawlunchi tower for panoramic view, on the way back visit Sutaungpyi Pagoda.
Overnight in Myitkyina.

Day 3: Drive to Lonetone Village via villages Nammati, Moegaung, Sarmaw and Hopin. (Junction of Indawgyi). Overnight at Lonetone Village.

Day 4: Sightseeing in Lake Indawgyi, the biggest lake in Myanmar, (length 25 km – width 13 km). Visit  Shwe Myinzu Pagoda which is located in lake Indawgyi by boat. Afternoon sightseeing Elephant camp & local Goldmine. Overnight.

Day 5: Drive to Myitkyina by car (7 hours drive) through different villagers enjoying local culture & daily life. Overnight in Myitkyina.

Day 6: Visitlocal market in the Morning for shopping where you can buy Kachin traditional costumes, handmade weavings, silverware, jade etc. Departure from Myitkyina to Yangon by flight.
